Our History

Dr. John Feller opened the first imaging center in Indian Wells, California in 1998. His vision was to create an independent, multi-modality imaging center that offers the latest medical imaging technology for the patients we serve at affordable cost. Because the center is not affiliated with a hospital or university, the doctors at Desert Medical Imaging are free to focus on quality, personalized patient care, to offer cost transparency and to accept most insurance plans as possible. We believe that everyone deserves access to state-of-the-art health care.

Patients and their physicians agreed with our approach, and as demand for our services grew over the next 10 years, we opened two more imaging centers throughout the Coachella Valley. Currently, Desert Medical Imaging operates four centers, each of which offer Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Spiral Computed Tomography (CAT or CT Scan), and ultrasound imaging services. Our Indian Wells facility also offers PET/CT imaging services, in cooperation with Indian Wells PET/CT Center.

Desert Medical Imaging Firsts In Advanced Patient Care

Our Board-Certified sub-specialized Diagnostic Radiologists actively work toward developing new techniques and innovative uses for medical imaging technology to help achieve better outcomes for patients using less invasive procedures. Desert Medical Imaging was the first outpatient center in the world to perform Focal Laser Ablation of a prostate tumor, which significantly reduces the risks to the patient over open surgery, shortens recovery time, and has much less chance of leaving the patient with serious long-term side effects. In addition, we were the first imaging center in the Coachella Valley to offer diagnostic prostate MRI imaging, and MRI-guided needle biopsies of the prostate gland, to give the most precise diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment options possible.

We were also the first outpatient imaging facility in the Coachella Valley to use Step and Shoot technology on a 64-slice CAT scan to perform Cardiac Coronary CTs while exposing the patient to significantly less radiation. The CT scan provides a much more detailed image than a standard x-ray, and gives our radiologists 2-D and 3-D images to work with, so they have the information needed to give your doctors and surgeons a precisely detailed and accurate report.

Specialized Care and Cutting Edge Technology

The radiologists at Desert Medical Imaging have sub-specialties in – Orthopedic/Sports Medicine, Neuroradiology, Interventional Radiology, and Whole Body Imaging – so we’re able to provide specialized care for a wide range of conditions. In addition to using various imaging technologies for diagnosis, our specialists also use imaging for minimally invasive treatment of many types of disease and injury, and for effective, lasting pain management.

Developing new techniques and working with the latest technology is a priority at Desert Medical Imaging. Our reputation and relationships with our professional community gives us opportunities to work with vendors in research and development new imaging technology, which is why our centers are equipped with university-level technology, while we maintain our physician-owned independence. We are currently involved in investigational regenerative therapies using stem cells harvested from the patient’s own body to repair tissue damaged by disease or injury.
